Artist Ben Johnson's monumental 12m2 Liverpool Cityscape 2008 picture meticulously details 170ha of the city from a bird's-eye perspective.
During February and March, Johnson was watched painting the Capital of Culture's skyline by more than 45,000 visitors to the Walker Art Gallery.
The internationally renowned artist, who was commissioned by National Museums Liverpool and was helped by 24 assistants, relied on 3,000 photos to help make up the final image.
On show at the Walker gallery from 24 May to 2 November, the painting will eventually end up at the Museum of Liverpool when it opens in late 2010.
