The Fragrant Jean Nouvel: architect does perfume design

The AJ received a mystery package yesterday. Waiting in the courier room was a parcel, not a CD of drawings, not a disk of hi-res pictures, but a shiny plastic bag with the 'Yves Saint Laurent' logo peeking out...

It turns out that Jean Nouvel has designed a bottle of perfume for them. Happily we can't reproduce the scent (following a thorough spraying of the AJ office, annoyed phrases thrown around included 'a turkish wrestler's jockstrap'), but here we give you the low-down on the packaging.

Of Course!

It's the new 'parfum' from Yves-Saint Laurent, with limited edition packaging designed by our
architect chum Jean Nouvel!

Unwrapping...

Apparently L'HOMME 'expresses a unique combination of luxury and industry'.
It's right at home then, on the salubrious surroundings of an AJ staffer's desk.

Standing Proud
According to Jean, the design is defined by 'Masculinity luxury and preciousness'.
And it 'symbolizes a fully assumed virility'.
Crikey!

The package unfolds
The exterior box is in black matt card overprinted with a gloss 'YSL' logo.
Inside is a hard foam block that cases the bottle

Easy does it

The base doubles up as the top to the atomiser and  a means of slipping it out of its packaging

Nifty detailing

A float shaped around the 'YSL' insignia bobs on the top of the perfume,
'showing the level of the fragrance in a playful way'. Quite.
