Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios designs gorilla house

Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBS) has revealed these designs for a gorilla house and tropical fruit-bat enclosure for the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust in Jersey.

The Bath and London-based practice will design two new buildings part of Durrell's five-year redevelopment plan, and will be working closely with Gillespies, which is overseeing the masterplan of the area.

FCBS' gorilla house will include two external spaces – with one imitating an African bai, clearings in forests which gorillas are attracted to – and even a heated gorilla gym.

The practice will also create a permanent dome for two species of fruit bat. Visitors will follow a path through the enclosure, which will provide a tropical environment, allowing them to be surrounded by animals indigenous to Mauritius, Madagascar and the Comoros islands.
