This is Anfield… no, Goodison… no, hang on, Anfison?

An architect and lifelong Everton football fan has drawn up these 'interesting' designs to try to answer the ultimate question – can Liverpool and Everton share a stadium?

Liverpool-based Trevor Skempton has sketched out his idea of how the two clubs can enjoy a world-class new stadium without the 'dreadful waste of resources and land'.

The two football clubs both plan to build new stadiums to help them cope with swelling numbers of fans and compete financially with other teams, but both are high-risk ventures.

Liverpool's new stadium has already been pared back, while Everton has done a deal with Tesco and moved the club out of the city to nearby Kirkby.

But Skempton's 'Anfield/Goodison' or 'Anfison/Goodfield' will feature the Everton FC Pavilion – a conical tower housing the '1878 Hotel' – on the north corner. And at the south corner will contain the Liverpool FC Pavilion, complete with 'Kop Hotel' and Liver Bird.

Skempton said: 'Given the inadequacy of the Kirkby proposal, the financial questions over the "New Anfield", and the future possibility that either club might take the "global-franchise" hype seriously and move away from its roots in the city of Liverpool, the time may have come for a shared world-class stadium.'
