Tall stories emerge of super-skyscraper for secret Middle East site

Another day, another tall story. This time it's UK-based Hyder Consulting claiming it is desiging a monster skyscraper twice as tall as the Burj Dubai (pictured) for a secret site somewhere in the Middle East.
The consulting group let slip that the group was looking at building a 1,200m-tall tower during AJ's sister publication MEED's Arabian World Construction Summit in Abu Dhabi.
If built, the skyscraper would be 'by far the tallest tower in the world' dwarfing the Burj Dubai which reached 598.5 m (158 storeys) last month – with a target of 1,200m.
Currently, the world's tallest completed building is the Taipei 101 in Taiwan, which is just over 500m tall.
Other behemoths allegedly in the pipeline – but yet to emerge from the ground – include the Kingdom Holding Company's s proposed 1,600m-high skyscraper in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah – dubbed the Mile High Tower.
There are also plans for a 1,001m-tall super-tall buildings in Kuwait's City of Silk (The Architects' Journal 12.02.08).
