Green Paper leak reveals plans for national film centre

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is planning to build a £200 million national film centre on London's South Bank.
According to a leaked Green Paper seen by the Evening Standard, Brown and new culture secretary Andy Burnham are hoping to use public and private money to create a new film centre as part of a plan to turn the UK into the 'world's creative hub'.
It is unclear where the public funding will come from, following recent cuts in Art Council grants to theatres and other cultural organisations.
The decision to build a new film centre could see the British Film Institute finally given a new home, which is currently housed beneath Waterloo Bridge (pictured).
However, according to shadow culture minister Ed Vaizey, the Green Paper is less than what was expected.
'This reads more like a Stalinist Five-Year Plan than a vision for creative industries. What makes it so depressing is that we have waited more than a year for this paper and it's little more than a series of reheated policies or absurd micromanagement.'
