Eric Kuhne to design Kuwaiti city

Eric Kuhne Associates is to design a $77 billion (£40 billion) new city in the Gulf emirate of Kuwait.

The Kuwaiti government has called on Kuhne to provide designs for the major new city, dubbed the City of Silk, and hopes to revive the ancient Asian trade route, the Silk Road.

Located in the Subiya area, on the northernmost tip of Kuwait Bay, Kuhne's new city will become home to more than 750,000 people when it is completed in 2030.

According to Kuhne, the city will be built on a 200km2 site which will consist of four major zones: a city of commerce, a city of diplomacy and education, a city of ecology, and a city of recreation and leisure.

Kuhne said it was 'the largest single real-estate development in the Middle East'.
