Chippo opens big braun Hamburg Hotel

David Chipperfield Architects' Empire Riverside Hotel in Hamburg opened today.

Appointed back in 2002, Chipperfield has provided the lucky Hamburgers with a hotel complex that includes a 20-storey tower, an L-shaped building at the base of the tower, and the Brauhaus – a retail and office building.

Located on the former Bavaria brewery site, the 74m-tall tower has 328 rooms and includes a hotel bar at the top, which offers panoramic views over the River Elbe and the rest of Hamburg.

Reader Response

It would be difficult for Hamburg to be much further away from Bavaria. The presence of a brewery does not a province make.
