Studio Egret West has revealed its plans to transform the base of London's Tower 42 – formerly known as the NatWest Tower.
The practice was chosen ahead of Make, AHMM and Hamilton Associates for the prestige 11-storey office and retail project around the foot of the 183m-tall landmark.
Opened in 1981, the skyscraper between Bishopsgate, Threadneedle Street and Old Broad Street is the tallest in the City of London.
As well as creating new commercial space and seven shops, the scheme will also address the public realm at the entrance to the tower.
The project is being backed by a joint venture between Blackrock and Hermes Real Estate.
A planning application is due to be submitted before the end of the year.
