Studio E Architects has won planning for this Academy in Hackney, east London.
The school, sponsored by financial consultants KPMG and the City of London under the government's Academies Programme, will accommodate 1,140 pupils, replacing the existing Homerton College with new 'state-of-the-art' facilities.
According to the London-based architect, the Academy will 'take the form of a colourful building ribbon that responds sensitively to its surroundings'. The practice says that a 'necklace' of classrooms will wind among clusters of existing trees.
The design of the school emerged through Studio E speaking to KPMG's education specialists, as well as young people from the area, who, with the help of the Sorrell Foundation, set out their 'Best School Ever' brief.
Contractor Willmot Dixon is expected to start work on site next month, with completion set for September 2009.
