The hunt is officially on to find an architect to replace John Madin's Central Library in Birmingham.
The project will replace Britain's 'largest and busiest' public library with a 'unique centre for knowledge, learning and culture'.
Forming the northern side of Centenary Square, the new Library of Birmingham will look to integrate the existing Repertory Theatre into the design, while adding 31,000m2 of new building.
The successful practice will be asked to lead a 'composite design team' to develop plans up to RIBA stage D, and gain planning permission.
In October last year, plans were mooted to launch an international competition to find a suitable architect to design the £145 million library.
This was scrapped just a week later when city bosses realised there were too many time constraints in running an international design competition.
