Aaron Betsky, former director of the Netherlands Architecture Institute (NAI), is to be appointed curator of the 11th Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition.
As commissioner for the Dutch pavilion at the previous three exhibitions, Betsky received the Golden Lion award in 2002 for best national participation.
This year's exhibition, named 'Out There. Architecture Beyond Building', will be his first as curator.
Betsky, who was at the NAI in Rotterdam for six years before becoming director of the Cincinnati Art Museum last year, said: 'We must not let buildings be the tombs of architecture, but must make an architecture that helps us to feel at home in, figure out and represent the world we live in.'
Marco Muller has been nominated as director of the Biennale's cinema sector; Maurizio Scaparro is to continue his role as director of the theatre sector; Ismael Ivo as director of the dance sector; and Andrea Del Mercato has been nominated as director general of the Fondazione la Biennale di Venezia.
