Capita Architecture and Evans Vettori Architects have been named as part of the 'inspiredspaces' consortium that has been announced as preferred bidder for Nottingham City Council's BSF programme.

The consortium, which is led by Carillion, will form a Local Education Partnership (LEP) with the council to oversee eight projects, including three £14 million academies and a £20 million secondary school in the north of the city to be called Big Wood.

Also part of the programme is the £7 million remodelling and refurbishment of Hadden Park High Secondary School and the construction of a £7 million Special Educational Needs Centre of Excellence.

Rob Firth, head of Capita Architecture, said Evans Vettori, based in Matlock, Derbyshire, was selected as design partner because of its 'very good track record at special-needs schools'.

Firth added that Capita Architecture would set up a new office in Nottingham to handle the massive contract and said that he expected that up to seven architects from Capita, six from Evans Vettori and three from Manchester-based landscape architect Planit would be working on each of the schemes.

He also confirmed that LEP is expected to deliver further new schools for Nottingham City Council in subsequent waves of the BSF programme and may deliver other community and regeneration projects, including a new swimming pool.

Capita Architecture's parent company, Capita Symonds, is also in the consortium and will provide partnering, educational and building-design services on the projects.
