Architecture plb and Hampshire-based Perkins Ogden Architects have been appointed to design two city academies for Luton Borough Council (LBC).
The practices fought off competition from Aedas, BDP and Foster + Partners to secure the £43.5 million appointment to design Barnfield South and Barnfield West Acadamies.
Architecture plb will design Barnfield West and and Perkins Ogden will design Barnfield South.
Phil Robbins, head of Luton's BSF programme, said he expected contractors to start work in summer 2009, with completion scheduled for 'early 2011'.
The sponsor of the acadamies, which lie some 5km apart just off the M1, is Barnfield Further Education College - the first time a FE college has acted as a BSF sponsor.
The academies' designs will be developed to RIBA design stage D and the design team and designs will then be novated to a yet-to-be-selected preferred bidder on a Design and Build basis.
