Alan Camp Architects (ACA) has secured planning for this £13 million housing development in Southwark, south London, to provide 75 new affordable homes.
The Webber Street development, commissioned by Hexagon Housing Association, will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom flats on the site of a former car park.
According to the Southwark-based firm, the design incorporates blocks of different heights that will offer 'protection from both noise and pollution using winter gardens'.
ACA says a south-facing courtyard will create a suntrap and, through planting and landscaping, will form a 'green lung' in the heart of the complex.
Project director Alex Wythe says: 'This was a challenging site, especially as it is so close to the railway line. We believe it sets a benchmark for affordable housing design in a dense urban setting.'
