O'Donnell + Tuomey wins green light for new Photographers' Gallery

Dublin-based architect O'Donnell + Tuomey has won planning permission for its competition-winning design for the Photographers' Gallery's new home in Soho, London.

The £15.5 million new gallery will be sited on Ramillies Street.

It will be the practice's first major project to complete in the UK.

It will be clad in red polished-plaster panels and glass.

O'Donnell + Tuomey has twice been nominated for the Stirling Prize, in 1999 for Renelagh School and in 2005 for the Lewis Glucksman Gallery in Cork.

The scheme, which will double the size of the current exhibition spaces, is expected to open in 2010.
