Glasgow-based NORD has won the competition to mastermind Urban Splash's City Waterside development in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
The scheme will transform a semi-derelict 4.6ha plot next to the Caldon Canal – currently the occupied by bricked-up terraces and rundown Victorian buildings, including a old pottery factory. The project, which has been billed as creating a 'a distinctive and high-quality residential quarter within easy reach of the Stoke-on-Trent city centre', will also incorporate one of three sites set aside for Europan 9.
Appointed as preferred developer by RENEW North Staffordshire back in August, Urban Splash wants to create a mix of housing, business space, leisure and retail facilities on the waterside land.
A planning application for the first phase of development is expected early next year, with work beginning on site after the summer.
Nord was named as one of the AJ's emerging 40 Under 40 talents in 2005.
