A preferred contractor has been named to build the Architecture Foundation's new Zaha Hadid-designed headquarters on London's South Bank.
A source close to the deal confirmed that Stratford-based Rooff had been selected to build the landmark £5 million building which will sit alongside Land Securities' Bankside 123 project. In October the scheme was thrown into doubt after contractor Bovis Lend Lease – which is working on the Bankside 123 project – refused to build it due to costs spiralling from the original £2.5 million price tag.
News of the selection of a contractor prepared to realise Hadid's design – which won her the competition in 2004 – will come as welcome news to the Olympic Delivery Authority, which has struggled to interest builders in Hadid's Aquatics Centre.
