Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios (FCBS) has won a competition to design a £65 million project for Manchester Metropolitan University.
The new 20,000m2 Business School and student hub will provide facilities for 5,000 students and 250 staff on the edge of the All Saints campus.
The building is arranged as three east-to-west floor plates, planned around two atria – one belonging to the Business School and the other to the student hub.
According to the practice the exterior design is 'jewel-like', with a trapezoid form and glazed facade which reflects different colours depending on their orientation.
FCBS is also planning to install a large number of photovoltaics for the south-facing roof.
The project is expected to start on site in 2009 with completion in 2011.
