Zaha reveals Miami Beach car park proposals

Zaha Hadid has unveiled her plans for a new car park at Miami Beach, Florida

The Pritzker Prize-winner became the latest big-name architect to be asked to design a car park at the coastal resort city when she was officially appointed in September (AJ 19.09.2011).

The UK-based architect follows in the footsteps of Herzog & de Meuron, Arquitectonica, Enrique Norten and Perkins & Will to have been commissioned to build a garage in Miami Beach.

Hadid’s scheme at Collins Park sits close to the New World Centre designed by Frank Gehry.

Speaking to the local press at the time of Hadid’s appointment, Miami Beach mayor Matti Bower, said: ‘Even our parking garages are more than a group of parking spaces. Some have become destinations within themselves and have attained individual iconic status. Every building can be a work of art.’
