YRM bags contract for Sizewell C
YRM has been awarded another contract to mastermind a huge nuclear reactor for EDF, this time in Suffolk
The practice will oversee the masterplan and design new buildings for the Sizewell ‘C’ reactor while Gillespies has landed the project to rework the landscaping.
The scheme will create a third power station on the seaside site. The firm also designed Sizewell B (pictured), completed in 1994. The now decommissioned Sizewell A was built in 1966.
The plant is to be one of four new 1650 megawatt Pressurised water reactors EDF plan to build before 2024.
YRM also bagged the masterplan contract for Hinkley Point C, a similar scheme in Somerset project managed by EDF.
Hinkley Point C and Sizewell C will together produce approximately 13 per cent of the UK’s energy by the early 2020s, according to the government.
