‘World’s best architects' invited to revamp Whitechapel

[Deadline for entries noon 13 November] Tower Hamlets Council is on the hunt for a visionary practice to mastermind the regeneration of Whitechapel in east London

The historic district – famous for Jack the Ripper’s murders – will become a major transport interchange when Crossrail opens in 2018.

The BDP-designed station will create new direct links to Canary Wharf and the West End.

The local authority is seeking an architect to masterplan the next 15 years of Whitechapel’s development.

Whitechapel hosts some of the capital’s highest housing densities and Tower Hamlets has the second fastest growing population in the United Kingdom.

The council-backed masterplan will focus on accelerating Whitechapel’s transformation and boosting ‘jobs, business growth and [building] new affordable homes’, according to a statement.

The deadline for expressions of interest is midday on Tuesday 13 November.
