Woods Bagot beats big names to bag Chinese victory

Woods Bagot has seen off the likes of Zaha Hadid and RMJM to win the competition to design a new convention centre in Shijiazhuang City, China

The practice also beat RSA, Gerkan Marg & Partners, BIAD and the South China Design Institute to land the huge masterplanning project for thethe Shijiazhuang International Exhibition and Convention Centre - a ‘culturally focused mixed-use precinct’ which aims to ‘stimulate’ the regeneration of a larger 190, 000m2 chunk of the city.

Woods Bagot principal Jean Weng said: ‘[Our scheme] responds to, and engages with, the landscape and its plethora of visitors – forming a harmonious, balanced design response that is also visually arresting.’
