Wilson Mason lands £20m Manchester cancer research centre

[First look] Wilson Mason and Partners has won the contest to design the new £20 million Manchester Cancer Research Centre (MCRC) in Withington,

Housing 150 researchers, the scheme includes a 150-seat lecture theatre and a series of laboratory spaces within a trio of two-storey pavilions, each supported by a third floor plant.

The project is backed by the University of Manchester, Cancer Research UK and The Christie Cancer Centre and is part of a wider masterplan for The Christie site which includes a potential second phase as well as a multi-storey car park.

Sheppard Robson had worked on initial feasibility studies for the centre.
