Wilkinson Eyre unwraps £9.5m office building in heart of Soho

[First look + project data] Wilkinson Eyre Architects has completed this £9.5 million seven-storey office building in Great Pulteney Street, in the centre of the Soho Conservation Area, London

The 3,065 square-metre project for F&C Property Asset Management replaces an outdated 1960s building and features a curved, set-back roofline, with a garden and external terrace areas.

The building’s structure is a hybrid solution combining in-situ flat slab with an embedded steel frame. At the rear elevation of the scheme, which was previously set back from Bridle Lane, the new facade features an ‘abstract arrangement of projecting window bays on a white glazed brick wall’.

The project includes an interactive piece of public art, Finial Response, by Cinimod Studio that covers 20 metres at street level. The installation - a reinterpretation of traditional street railings - is made of responsive LED elements which react to passers-by, further animating the streetscape.

Paul Baker, Director at Wilkinson Eyre Architects said: ‘We wanted to add a distinctive piece of architecture to one of the best streets in Soho. While a key challenge for the project was maximising the amount of floor space, there was also an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the streetscape and to create spaces that are extremely bright and fun to work in.’
