Wilkinson Eyre scoops Hamburg bridge contest
Wilkinson Eyre has won the international competition to design a new 130m-long bridge in Hamburg
The new bridge, located in a flood-protected area, connects the area and the southern connection to the U4 metro station at HafenCity University and may in the future be extended over the river Elbe to Kleinen Grasbrook.
Construction is expected to start in early 2012.
The competition jury, led by independent architect Peter Ackermann (Munich), chose the scheme for its ‘pragmatic, elegant design’.
