UK nominations for Mies van der Rohe Award revealed

Populous’ Olympic Stadium and OMA’s New Court are among seven UK schemes nominated for the Mies van der Rohe award for architecture in Europe

The nominations for the European ‘building Oscar’ were made by the RIBA to the European Union Commission.

Other contenders include Stanton Williams’ Stirling Prize-winning Sainsbury Laboratory in Cambridge and King’s Grove, Peckham by Duggan Morris which won the Stephen Lawrence Award 2012

  • Central Saint Martins, King’s Cross by Stanton Williams
  • The Hepworth Wakefield, Yorkshire by David Chipperfield Architects
  • London Olympic Stadium by Populous
  • The Lyric Theatre, Belfast by O’Donnell + Tuomey
  • Maggie’s Centre, Gartnavel, Glasgow by OMA
  • New Court, London by OMA with Allies and Morrison
  • Sainsbury Laboratory, Cambridge by Stanton Williams
  • King’s Grove, Peckham by Duggan Morris Architects
  • Brockholes Visitor Centre, Preston by Adam Khan Architects
  • Holburne Museum, Bath by Eric Parry Architects
  • Astley Castle, Astley by Witherford Watson Mann

A shortlist will be created from the European countries nominated candidates with a winner planned to be announced in April.
