Trust launches £2.5m Dartmouth Indoor pool competition

The DDIP Trust is searching for architects to design a new leisure facility and indoor swimming pool at Dartmouth in Devon

The Dartmouth Indoor and District Indoor Pool Trust (DDIP) is seeking expressions of interest from multidisciplinary teams made up of architects, structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineers; as well as design and build contractors and quantity surveyors.

The £2.5 million project for a hill-top site has funding pledges in place and has been successfully presented to three tiers of government.

Dartmouth built a leisure centre 10 years ago but ran out of funds when it came to completing the indoor pool, with today only the ‘dry-side’ built.

Anna Uhr Delia, DDIP trustee said: ‘The people of Dartmouth have wanted a pool for well over 60 years, with many older residents recalling fundraising as children.

‘The Dartmouth and District Indoor Pool Trust was set up last year to spearhead a concerted effort to finally make the pool a reality. We are [now] well on the way.’

The deadline for submissions of interest is 7 May.

The winning scheme will be announced in June, with site work planned to commence shortly thereafter.
