Think wins planning for rooftop lozenge in Leeds

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] Emerging West Yorkshire practice Think architecture+design has won the green light for this lozenge-shaped rooftop addition to a 1980s red brick building in Leeds

The outfit, which was the first to feature in our new practice column back in October 2009, has come up with a two-storey extension to the existing office building at Queen Street designed by David Lyons Associates.

According to the firm, the new fifth floor ‘will form a dramatic visual stop when looking along Park Place’ and will ‘float over the red brick arches’ of the original block with a new glazed vertical entrance core connecting it to street level.

Simon Smithson, co-founder of Think architecture+design, said: ‘This is a fantastic step forward for our new practice and we are delighted to be involved in this exciting project and demonstrates our commitment to finding the right solutions for our clients.

‘Working with Ripley Capital with a brief to revitalise the building in these tough economic times has been an excellent challenge, and we look forward to taking the scheme forward to a completion early next year’.
