The AJ is now on iPad - download it free today

The Architects’ Journal’s new iPad edition is now in the App Store with a free sample issue of the AJ, single issues for sale, and free access to subscribers until April 2013

The Architects’ Journal (AJ), the best-selling weekly architecture publication since 1895, has announced the launch of its iPad edition, now available for download free in the App Store. The app is free to existing subscribers until April 2013.

Featuring the weekly magazine with interactive drawings and bonus content, the app includes a free sample issue of the AJ, and offers the ability to purchase single issues or subscribe to the weekly iPad edition on a monthly or annual basis.

The launch is a historic moment for the print title. The AJ is the first weekly architecture title to use the Adobe DPS platform favoured by magazines such as Wired, which enabled the creation of the interactive floorplans and technical drawings, pinch and zoom, bonus photography, video and maps, as well as deep links to the AJ Buildings Library and The AJ website.

Introducing the app in her column in this week’s issue of the magazine, Christine Murray, AJ editor, said the app builds upon the title’s long tradition in print:

‘This is a landmark moment in more than a century of publishing for the AJ. Brought to you by the same team that designs the AJ in print, and built with the same software used to create iPad magazines such as Wired, we’ve worked hard to craft an edition that is in keeping with the AJ’s tradition and style, while making the most of the additional features offered by this new platform.

The building studies include interactive floorplans and technical drawings, maps and video

Murray added: ’The navigation follows a few simple rules. As for interactivity, we’ve lavished the most attention, rightly, on the building studies, which include interactive floorplans and technical drawings, bonus photography, maps and video.  We believe we’ve created a great new way for architects to experience the AJ every week.”

We're having trouble with our authentication - but the wizards are on it and it should be fixed soon. Will post a note when they've cracked it.
