Terraced house extension and overhaul, Chelsea by Moxon Architects

[FIRST LOOK] Moxon Architects has revealed these plans to reconfigure and extend a Grade II-listed terrace in Chelsea, west London

The AJ/Corus 40 under 40 practice received permission to ‘radically’ overhaul the house in Ovington Street, earlier this year.

The scheme will create a fewer number of larger room with additions to both top and bottom of the house to increase its volume by almost a quarter.

A spokesman for the practice said: ‘The original structure is retained internally as traces within the new configuration – differential materials and finishes trace the extents of the previous structure across the walls, floors and ceilings of the new space.

‘This geometry sets up a framework for the use of the space: circulation and use is has been established within these geometric confines, whilst simultaneously the house has become lighter and more open, reflecting the needs of the client.’

The budget is confidential.

Due to start on site in October, the proehct is expected to finish by May next year (2011).
