Swanke Hayden Connell bags £150 million Bermuda hospital
[FIRST LOOK] The London office of Swanke Hayden Connell Architects has revealed these images of the proposed new King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Hamilton, Bermuda
The practice, working with its New York studio, is part of the successful Public Private Partnership bidding team which includes UK-based Sir Robert McAlpine and BCM McAlpine in Bermuda.
The new £150 million hospital features a naturally-lit, central four storey atrium which leads to inpatient bedroom floors that are subdivided into ‘neighbourhoods’ or small clusters of rooms.
According to the practice, the building’s facade has been ‘developed by using the local island Bermudian architectural context as a visual reference’ in particular ‘a pattern of pavilions which appear to ‘float’ within the landscape’.
The design team includes local associate architect OBMI, service engineers AECOM and landscape architect McFarlane Wilder.
