Sutherland Hussey on shortlist for £30 million drama academy in China

Edinburgh’s Sutherland Hussey Architects has been shortlisted against three local practices to design an extension to Beijing’s Central Academy of Drama

The £30 million scheme features a 600-seat theatre, an exhibition space and a rooftop café with views looking west towards the Forbidden City.

According to the practice, the proposal is for a predominantly low building, in line with the neighbouring Huton residential area, with a new flytower rising above a landscaped performance terrace.
