Studio Octopi wins go-ahead for house with 'vertical slider'

Studio Octopi has won planning permission for this refurbishment of a 250sq m, five-storey house in Chalcot Road, Primrose Hill, north London

Due to start on site this summer the scheme features a four-floor ‘vertical sliding window’ with a new stairwell.

Describing the scheme practice director Chris Romer-Lee said: ‘The proposals exploit both the tall, thin nature of the property and lack of overlooking by properties to the rear.

;The ground and lower ground are combined with a cut out to the floor, new stair and a vertical slider that continues up four floors to the master suite.

‘An open-weave of brickwork, backed with obscure glass further unifies the rear elevation and expresses the fragility to the new incisions in the fabric of the property.’
