Studio Egret West to design Cambridge United stadium

Studio Egret West and Dipesh Patel of Pattern have been jointly appointed to design a new home for Cambridge United

The proposal is being backed by developer Grosvenor, the landlord of the Conference National football team’s current Abbey Stadium ground (pictured). A spokesperson said: ‘Over the next few months we will be conducting research and formulating a vision for the site.

‘We will be talking with the occupiers and the local authority about possible uses – nothing is being discounted.’

Initial designs are expected to be presented this September.

The club hopes to move into a new ground by 2017, although its exact location remains has yet to be pin-pointed.

With a capacity of 9,617, the Abbey Stadium has been the home ground of Cambridge United F.C. since 1932.
