Studio Egret West set to revamp Balfron Tower

Studio Egret West (SEW) looks set to get its hands on the £40 million job to refurbish Erno Goldfinger’s Balfron Tower in east London

It is understood developers Londonewcastle and United House are the frontrunners to land the project to overhaul the 46 year-old, 27-storey tower which was given a grade II-listed status in 1996.

However the building’s owner Poplar Harca will not make an official decision on its preferred bidder until later next month.

The SEW team was up against bids from Cathedral with Waugh Thistleton and Urban Splash with Hawkins\Brown.

The 84m-tall landmark, a pre-cursor to Goldfinger’s 14m taller Trellick Tower in Kensington, is set to be fully refurbished with the apartments sold on the private market.

Londonewcastle was unavailable for comment.
