Strata integrates wind turbines in 'world first'

Hamiltons’ 148m-tall Strata tower at Elephant & Castle will have its huge 9m blades fitted next week, making it the first building in the world with integrated wind turbines according to its developer

The £1.3 million plants will produce 8 per cent of the building’s electricity each year and will earn the developer, Brookfield, £70,000 in government feed-in tariff.

Although costing £25,000 a year to maintain, the alternative to meet the 10 per cent renewable target was photovoltaic panels, which would have covered up to 35 per cent of the concave surface area on the south facade.
