Simon Conder's Kent house wins Stephen Lawrence Prize

El Ray, a private house in Kent, by Simon Conder Associates has won this year’s Stephen Lawrence Prize funded by the Marco Goldschmied Foundation

The £5,000 prize goes to the best example of a building with a construction budget of less than £1 million with the intention of encouraging fresh talent working with smaller budgets.

Conder’s house beat a five-strong shortlist which included:

  • Long Barn Studio, Nicolas Tye Architects
  • Deal Pier, Niall McLaughlin Architects
  • Hind House, John Pardey Architects
  • House in Highgate Cemetery, Eldridge Smerin

The prize was given at this year’s Stirling Prize ceremony on Saturday (17 October).
