Scottish design watchdog chief steps down

The chief executive of design watchdog Architecture and Design Scotland (A+DS) Sebastian Tombs has announced that he is to step down from his post

Tombs has led the organisation – the Scottish equivalent of CABE – since its inception in 2005. He informed the board of his decision yesterday (3 June).

The move follows the review by the Scottish government in April of A+DS’ role in design review and planning, calling on the body to simplify its structure and focus on a limited number of priorities.

‘There is no reason why A+DS should not build on its strengths to perform a vital role in Scotland, similar to those by CABE in Scotland, and the Design Commission for Wales,’ said the report.

Tombs will leave his post in mid-July.
