Scott Brownrigg bags planning to redevelop Marco Polo House

Scott Brownrigg’s design features 456 apartments, 1,200m² of commerical space and 141 parking spaces and replaces the 1987 ‘Marco Polo House’ which was designed by surveyor and well-known naturalist Ian Pollard.
The developer will pay more than £12million to local authority Wandsworth Council as part of a section 106 legal agreement to pay for infrastructure improvements including a proposed extension to the Northern Line.
Wandsworth Council planning chairman councillor Nick Cuff said: ‘This scheme would create hundreds of new homes and provide almost £12million towards improving local services and infrastructure.
‘Nine Elms has begun to transform on an enormous scale. Building work is already underway on several major schemes and more planning applications will soon be coming forward.
‘The Government’s commitment to extending the Northern Line has reinforced investor confidence and it won’t be too long before a new residential and business district has taken shape.’
Nearby schemes include Foster + Partners and Neil Tomlinson Architects New Covent Garden Market redevelopment, Broadway Malyan’s Vauxhall Tower and Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners Tideway Wharf scheme which has started on site.
Enabling works are also underway on the site of Kieran Timberlake’s competition-winning new US Embassy scheme which is expected to open in 2017.
Rafael Vinoly’s £5.5 billion redevelopment of Battersea Power Station nearby went into administration last year. A new owner could be appointed to take over the site later this year.
