Rural Design completes larch-clad holiday home on the Isle of Skye

[FIRST LOOK + PLANS] Local architect Rural Design has completed this all-seasons holiday house in the village of Fiskavaig, Isle of Skye

Set in a remote landscape, the timber building rests on a dozen small piers that maximise views.

According to the architect, the 70m², two-storey structure, with a fully glazed northern elevation, ‘leans into the weather’.

It is clad with larch, lined with oriented strand board and insulated with rockwool.

Heated by a wood-burning stove and with a composting toilet, the house has two bedrooms and an open-plan kitchen, dining and sitting space.

It was built for a tutor and a graphic designer at a cost of £123,000.
