RSVP now: Women in Architecture event this evening

The AJ is hosting a free talk and panel discussion with winners of the inaugural Women in Architecture Awards and The Apprentice architect Gabrielle Omar at the NLA in London

Chaired by AJ editor Christine Murray, speakers at the event include AJ Woman Architect of the Year joint winners Cindy Walters and Michál Cohen and AJ Emerging Woman Architect of the Year Hannah Lawson.

Gabrielle Omar from the BBC’s The Apprentice television program will also be addressing the audience.

Sponsored by Roca, the event takes place from 5.30pm to 8pm on 12 June at the NLA in Store Street, London.

Walters & Cohen will discuss their award-winning practice, which has designed 50 primary and secondary schools with 32 completed or currently in progress.

Around 70 per cent of their workforce is female, as are three out of the four company directors.

Lawson – who joined John McAslan + Partners as a Part 2 graduate in 2001 and within four years was named director – will discuss how to get noticed and rise to the top of a big practice.

Omar is currently director of three businesses, including architecture practice, Lolli and Square and creative design and print agency, We Be 3.

Omar recently appeared in 10 out of 12 episodes of The Apprentice’s eighth series. Omar will be speaking about how to market and brand your studio for success.

The talks will be followed by a panel discussion and question and answer session chaired by AJ editor Christine Murray.
