Roz Barr Architects' Våler church - third place scheme
Up-and-coming firm Roz Barr Architects has come third in one of the biggest architecture competitions in Norway’s history
Eventually won by Oslo’s Espen Surnevik, the contest to design a replacement for a burned down 19th-century church in Våler attracted 239 entries from around the globe.
Among the raft of British practices to have submitted designs were DRDH and Duggan Morris.
The impressive third place ranking has netted Roz Barr, a former associate director at Eric Parry Architects, more than £8,000 in prize money [read the full list of winners and commendations here].
Meanwhile, there has already been controversy about the victorious design - pictured below - with reports of ‘considerable unrest in the Våler community’ regarding the earmarked site for the proposals (see more here).
