Rogers bags planning for Deptford mixed-use redevelopment

Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners’ (RSHP) £42 million, 121-home redevelopment near Deptford train station in south east London has won planning permission

The project – designed with Ash Sakula Architects, Pollard Thomas Edward Architects and Farrer Huxley Associates – was approved last Thursday (8 March) by local authority Lewisham Council’s planning committee.

RSHP has planned a residential block (pictured) while and Ash Sakula has worked on the redevelopment of nearby St Paul’s House and three new townhouses.

Pollard Thomas Edwards with Farrer Huxley associates are refurbishing a Grade II-listed carriage ramp and creating the public realm and a new market square.

Planned to start on site later this year and complete in mid 2014, the public private partnership scheme is backed by The Deptford Project – a joint venture between Cathedral Group and United House Group in partnership with Lewisham Council.

Cathedral chief executive Richard Upton said: ‘Since we signed our development agreement with Lewisham Council in 2008 we have been working hard on site in Deptford to create a wonderful, vibrant place.

‘The Deptford Project café and all of the creative activities that have happened around it over the last four years have been instrumental in building ground-up support for this scheme that will have an enormous impact on Deptford’s town centre. We are really looking forward to seeing a beautiful new building light up this part of Deptford bringing much needed investment into the town.’

United House Group chief executive Jeffrey Adams said: ‘Deptford is one of the capital’s undiscovered gems. It has huge potential, with its vibrant local community and location so close to the city and West End. We are creating stylish homes with great appeal just six minutes from London Bridge. Our scheme will be a catalyst for the broader regeneration plans for the area while restoring and preserving important historical elements.’
