Roger Stephenson wins go-ahead for pre-fab Cheshire homes

Roger Stephenson’s new outfit has won planning permission for two new prefabricated homes in Frodsham, Cheshire

Stephenson set up the practice Stephenson:ISA Studio with the support of Ian Simpson Architects in January this year following the demise of Roger Stephenson Architects (see AJ 29.01.2013).

Approved by Cheshire West and Chester Planning Authority, the pair of 250m² ‘contemporary’ houses were designed for private developer, Steppingstones Building Developments.

Stephenson said: ‘[The developer has] bravely decided to buck the ‘tudorbethan’ trend commonly found in the area and aimed for the design aware communities of the nearby conurbations of Liverpool, Manchester and Chester.’

The homes are to be built ‘mostly off-site’ to cut the disruption to the neighbours around the site.

Stephenson:ISA Studio’s secured planning permission for its first scheme, a one-off speculative house in Hale Barns, earlier this year.
