RMJM’s Fred the Shred de-knighted

Former RMJM employee and disgraced banker Fred Goodwin is to be stripped of his knighthood

The former Royal Bank of Scotland chief executive is losing his knighthood because it is believed he brought the honours system into disrepute.

He was given the title eight years ago for services to banking under the previous Labour government.

RMJM hired Goodwin as a senior advisor on international business two years ago but he was understood to have stepped down from the position one year later.

In May last year former RMJM senior executive David Pringle claimed Goodwin’s actions at the company led to salaries not being paid and staff defecting.

He added that Goodwin was ‘deeply unpopular’ with many of the firm’s directors and staff due to his effect on the way the firm was managed during a turbulent period in its history.

RMJM declined to comment.
