RMJM's £60 million Napier Uni scheme opens doors

[FIRST LOOK] RMJM’s new £60 million Sighthill campus at Edinburgh Napier University has opened its doors to more than 5,000 students and staff today (10 January)

Billed as ‘Scotland’s newest hub for health, science and sports education’, the 24,345m2 development brings together the School of Life, Sport & Social Sciences and the Nursing, Midwifery & Social Care School.

The scheme, which was designed with Buro Happold retains an eight storey block at its core, adding a further 13,833m2 around it. The new campus includes 25 classrooms, nine clinical skills laboratories, crime scene and forensics rooms, six project rooms, five research rooms, a 200m2 gym and 1200m2 sports hall including a biomechanics laboratory.

Paul Rodgers, principal of RMJM Edinburgh, said: ‘We wanted to make the most of the regenerative potential of the project and integrate the building with the local community.

‘To achieve this we created a public space at the main entrance that leads directly to the central atrium, creating the social heart of the campus with informal learning space, a café and direct access to all of the teaching areas.’
