RMJM to open new Middle East offices

Global architecture firm RMJM has announced plans to open three international offices in the next two months: two in the Middle East, in Bahrain and Qatar, and one in Turkey

The expansion is designed to capitalise on growing government investment in healthcare, education and transport infrastructure. The firm currently has 15 offices across Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the US.

According to the firm’s chief executive, Peter Morrison, RMJM is also looking to strengthen its presence in Abu Dhabi and explore opportunities in North Africa.

The Edinburgh-based practice, ranked fifteenth in last year’s AJ100 list of Britain’s biggest practices told the AJ in April it was to make 60 staff redundant across its European offices. The news came just weeks after announcing that its pre-tax profits for 2008 had nearly doubled to £7.9 million.

  • RMJM cash management decisions appear to be rather skewed with expansion being the highest priority. They have simultaneously cut wages by !0% for all employees while they agressivlely hire big-ticket directors for Russia and the Emerging Markets.
