RMJM fails to pay staff on time - again

RMJM has again failed to pay its staff at its Hong Kong office on time despite bringing in new principals to sort out its Asian operations

In an email leaked to the AJ, incoming managing principal Gordon Hood told the Hong Kong staff that ‘despite a full time effort, we’ve not been able to secure sufficient funds from our clients to allow us to [pay you on time]’.

It is not the first time the workforce has had to wait for their pay packets. Last month 35 RMJM staff ‘defected’ to Aedas amid allegations salaries had been paid late.

Since then RMJM’s controlling dynasty, the Morrison family (Peter Morrison pictured), has announced it would pump £8 million into the beleaguered global giant to stabilise the company’s financial position. But that move, which needs shareholder support, has not yet concluded and isn’t expected to be rubberstamped until next week.

A spokesman for RMJM said: ‘We recently announced the imminent refinancing of the RMJM Group. We are now in the very final stages of that process and expect to confirm its completion shortly.

‘The refinancing will provide significant additional financial flexibility, however the financial pressure on the group remains in the interim. Our position on this is well documented.’

It is understood Hong Kong staff will be paid their March salaries tomorrow (7 April).

Hood was appointed managing principal and Bob Nation takes on the role of design principal in Asia last month with them both assuming ‘responsibility for overseeing the company’s studios in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Singapore and Strata’.
