Rival Croydon schemes go head-to-head

Hammerson has signed up Urban Splash, Terry Farrell and RTKL in its battle against Westfield to develop a key swathe of Croydon

The move puts the triumvirate in direct competition with Allies & Morrison which is drawing up plans for a rival £1 billion scheme by Westfield.

The developers have locked horns over the south London’s town’s Whitgift Centre and adjoining sites with both desperate to gain control of the shopping centre.

Hammerson’s proposal (pictured) includes 130,000 m² on the site of the Whitgift Centre and up to 10,000 m² of additional leisure space. A further 500 residential units are also planned.

Westfield’s 125,000 m² scheme features up to 600 residential units and would be the developer’s third shopping centre in the capital.
